Glenda Villajuan – Founder & Executive Director
Glenda has been a children’s advocate for 30 years. She holds a Master of Science degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education birth to 5 years old, and school age grades 1 and 2 from Touro College. She also earned a Certificate for Child Care for Professionals from Bank Street College of Education. She has worked as a preschool teacher at Northside Child Development Center in Manhattan, a therapeutic nursery serving children with varying levels of developmental needs. She has taught at the Susan Patricoff Head Start and Early Head Start Program, Public School 102, Jacques Cartier Elementary School serving a group of 1st grade and 2nd graders.
Prior to teaching, Glenda served as legislative staff at the New York State Assembly in Albany, working on legislation helping children and families. She moved to New York City in 1993 to work directly with children and their families initially as Service Coordinator, then held various roles as Quality and Training Manager, Borough Director, Project Director and Consultant for New York City’s Early Intervention Programs, while employed at Public Health Solutions, TheraCare, and the Visiting Nurse Service of New York. In these various capacities, she worked closely with developmental pediatricians, special educators, speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other interventionists helping children at risk for developmental delays and disabilities. She also served as Borough Director for MHRA/Early Intervention Service Coordination and Deputy Director for New York City’s Infant Child Program/Child Find responsible for identifying and monitoring approximately 5,000 infants/toddlers and preschoolers with special needs.
In 2001, she received the “Caring For Children” award for her work from the Coalition for Asian American Children and Families and the “Entrepreneur of the Year” award from Enterprise magazine for creating a greeting card company that featured Asian American children. Glenda has a daughter attending Binghamton University and a son attending New York Collaborative High School.
Ruben – Educational & Operations Director
Mr. Ruben comes to us after years serving in various capacities and programs with the NYC Department of Education. He has a strong background in both education and administration having been a director and a teacher. He holds a Master of Science Early Childhood Education from the City College of New York and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Silliman University. In his spare time he enjoys photography and traveling.
Robin – Enrollment Coordinator & Office Manager (Clinton Hill)
Robin Becker is a healthy foods private chef who is very passionate about teaching the benefits of healthful cooking and eating. In addition, she enjoys spending time with the children, reading to them and giving them a cuddle. Robin uses her interpersonal and organizational skills to work with the parents to make sure their experience with us is a seamless and joyful one and keep CitiTots running smoothly and efficiently on a daily basis. Outside of Cititots, she likes trying new restaurants with friends and taking weekend trips outside the city.
Faith – Substitute Teacher
Ms. Faith brings more international flare to Cititots having managed an English-language school in South Korea where she lived for over a decade and earned her Masters degree in Counseling and Ph.D in Public Health. Aside from helping keep our Bedford-Stuyvesant location running smoothly, she helps out in the classroom whenever needed. In her spare time, she enjoys being active in church and sightseeing around New York.
Towanda – Teacher Assistant
Ms. Towanda is a warm and engaging caregiver with over twelve years of experience in various educational organizations throughout New York City including the Bedford Stuyvesant Early Life Child Center. She is a fully certified Teacher’s Aid and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the College of New Rochelle.
Cristina – Lead teacher
Ms. Cristina is a veteran educator with many years of experience teaching at various grade levels and schools most recently at the Bethel Mission Loving Day Care Center in Queens. She earned her degree in education from Philippine Normal University and has been enriching the minds of students ever since. Her favorite pastimes include Chinese brush painting and arts and crafts.
Belma – Teacher Assistant
Ms. Belma comes to us with over ten years of experience caring for children at various places including Public School 54 in Brooklyn. She has a love for children and enjoys working with them. Ms. Belma aspires to further her education in teaching and hopes to build on her knowledge on how to create a strong foundation for early learners.
Ms. Lorna comes to us by way of Italy where she was an entrepreneur. Since then she has worked in various care capacities, most recently at The Young Adults Institute where she served as a counselor. When left to her own devices, she likes to do things with family and friends. She enjoys being physically active, biking and running during her free time!
Brunilda – Teacher Assistant
Ms. Bruni has over twenty-five years of experience in schools and daycares and, herself, has a very successful daughter and grandchildren. She has been with CitiTots since 2015 and provides the love and wisdom that can only come from a “grandmother.” Not only does she help the children, she also cares and nurtures the staff as well!
Alize – Teacher Assistant
Ms. Aly is very energetic, friendly and passionate when working with kids. She comes with over four years of childcare experience as a private nanny and babysitter. At a very young age she was taught how to take care of children after being the oldest child of 4. Outside of Cititots she enjoys reading, and exploring new things with family.
Liza – Teacher Assistant
Ms. Liza really enjoys working in education and helping out around the classroom and was also an elementary school teacher back home in the Philippines. She is currently working on her New York City child care credentials. In her personal time, Ms, Liza loves to cook Filipino food and spending time with her family.
Ramon – Marketing & Operations Mr. Mr. Ramon manages the website, the marketing, the computers, the lights, supplies and all things outside of teaching though he is a seasoned educator himself. He has taught art at the university level and has also been a teacher’s assistant for the Long Beach Unified School District in California and a Teaching Artist for a New York City High School. He is certified in food safety, CPR/first aid and child care. Ramon earned his BA from California State University, Long Beach and his MFA in Illustration from SUNY Fashion Institute of Technology. In his spare time, he likes to write and draw comic books.
